Tomorrow I'm teaching a private Voice Workshop for an eclectic group - some financial planners, hosts of a radio program and a young voice actor.

I love teaching. Workshops require intense preparation and focus. Knowing precisely what my students need and what they are looking for makes that work even more rewarding. I've distilled my 2-and-a-half hour workshop down to almost half that. There are some elements of "Find Your Voice" workshop that I will leave out, but this give us room to truly focus on the Voice. ("Find Your Voice" is a voice and public speaking workshop.)

Tomorrow's session will be the foundation for my Voice Actors' Workshop in the fall. The class will be limited to 12, so let me know if you want to be on the invite list.

We'll address these questions and much more in the Voice Workshop designed specifically for Actors and Voice Actors.

Topics we will cover include...
**  The Basic Mechanics of the Voice
** Tension, Relaxation, Breathing and Posture
** The Voice Variables ~ Rate, Volume, Pitch & Quality
** Different Styles of Delivery
** Vocal Problems to be aware of and eliminate

There will be exercises and individual participation, so be prepared to make yourself heard. Class size is limited to 15. Registration is $79. Register online at EventBrite.com. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/voice-for-the-actor-workshop-tickets-10991645307

After a long wait, my computer, ProTools and interface are officially upgraded. Check that--the computer is the same, but my Mac has more memory and a new OS, so it FEELS new. I was holding back the panic as I prepared for a steep learning curve on ProTools... only to find that the the software isn't that different and I could even open my ancient PT LE 7.0 sessions in the new PT Express 10.0. Celebrations were heard throughout the neighborhood!

Well, these weren't the only upgrades. I've been using Quicken 2003 on my other Mac (which probably does qualify as ancient). I did not hear good things about more current versions of Quicken for Mac, so I asked for recommendations. iBank seemed to be the go-to software for my needs. I downloaded a demo and low and behold, it's great! I can even (drum roll, please) download my transactions directly into the software from my credit union's website. I know, a lot of you have probably be doing this for years, but it was a new experience for me. Oh, the hours of entering transactions that I will save!

The downside is that I still need to do my 2012 taxes using my old Quicken software. The data is already there and the reports will still run, but I want to play with my new toy--uh, new software. I bet it does all kinds of tricks that my old one didn't. Ah well, give me a month and I'll be done with Quicken, the old computer will go to some needy family, and I'll get to play around--um, delve into the complexities of my new software. I've never been so motivated to get my taxes done!

In addition to voice-overs, voice workshops and writing, I also do an occasional on-camera gig. Last Friday, I worked with our local Community Minded Television to do some PSA's for the Northwest Fair Housing Alliance. Gotta say, PSA's are some of my favorite projects. You get the word out on an important issue, stand up for the little guy, make the world a little better. Well, that's the idea anyway.

The guys at CMTV were delightful to work with! Our 2 hour session wrapped in just 45 minutes. (Might have had something to do with the actor's experience too.) I love my job.

I had been limping along with an outdated OS, browser, Flash Player, audio editor...you name it and it needed an upgrade. Finally, I hit a virtual brick wall and had to step into the 2010's. I called my Mac guru, Micah, and asked what version of ProTools would serve my needs, be affordable and work with...which version of Mac OS was that?

One trip to Guitar Center and a LONG evening of Micah-assisted downloads, installs and troubleshooting and - drumroll please - I'm UPGRADED! My OS works with ProTools Express. My browser works with, well, everything. And I no longer have to close those annoying windows telling me, "Your browser needs updating". Thanks to Avid, I can even open my old, musty, moldy sessions from (eek!) ProTools 7. And the preamp on the Mbox Mini are good enough that I can bail on my little mixer. Oh, I love a tidy studio!

Very shortly I'll be ditching Quicken - which apparently doesn't like Macs - for iBank. Not my favorite kind of software to play with, but it beats using a check register and abacus. Don't laugh. I was seriously considering it.

Full day. Fun day! Voice demo session with Gabby Nistico of VOCareer.com. Auditions for two clients and a spot for a third. The rest of the day was "The Courage to be Yourself", my new audiobook. Didn't write it, but I'm enjoying narrating it.

Update on "Find Your Voice", my seminar for women executives. The official date is now Tuesday, September 18th, 9:30-11:30 am. I'll have more details for you on the venue soon.

How well do you communicate your knowledge and insight? As a professional woman, you know your business, but you may not know how to use your voice effectively. We will cover the voice basics, give you some tools to help you improve, as well as some tips on what to do with the rest of you (i.e., posture, hand gestures, eye contact). Email me with your questions - kyrsten@kyrstenweber.com.

I'm working on a new audiobook, the 10th anniversary edition of "The Courage to Be Yourself: A Woman's Guide to Emotional Strength and Self-Esteem". Well-written, encouraging and practical, I'm giving it a very conversational read. Should be out early this fall. I'll keep you posted.

Time for a new voice demo! I'm working with Gabby Nistico at VOCareer on the new-and-improved sampling. Great insight, input and personality from a lady who knows her stuff.

My 4-year-old just made her second commercial. This girl is a born professional. Anni took direction well, did multiple shots with no complaint, smiled almost the whole shoot, and was generally little-miss-sunshine. Proud momma!
